Portuguese Colonial Rosewood Chest on Stand, 19th century, with four short drawers and one long drawer with a two-drawer front, on barley-twist legs joined by X-form stretcher, ht. 28 1/4, wd. 23, dp. 13 1/4 in. Provenance: From the Collection of L. Francis Herreshoff, Marblehead, Massachusetts, and the Estate of Jacob Atwood, Boston. Top re-colored and with numerous side to side shrinkage cracks; some looseness to right side veneers and with some cracking; minor discoloration to base; one lock off but present; overall very good; age typical minor defects.
