Duchoiselle (French, 19th Century) Lot of Two Sculptures: Indian Maiden in a Canoe and Indian Brave in a Canoe Both signed "Duchoiselle" on the base. Patinated bronze, Maiden 24 x 36 x 11 1/2 in. (61.0 x 91.4 x 29.2 cm), Brave 25 x 42 x 11 1/2 in. (63.5 x 106.7 x 29.2 cm). Condition: Losses to Maiden ; losses, restorations to Brave . Provenance: From a Governor's Island, Lake Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire residential property. N.B. Duchoiselle was a French sculptor who worked in both bronze and marble, and is best known for his sculpture in the Garnier Opera in Paris. Break to oar of Maiden. She also has several abrasions including her right foot and left arm. Brave has lost whatever he was holding in his right hand. He also has a 6 in. repaired vertical crack to base at front, and a 6 1/2 in. repaired vertical crack to base at back. Both have minor weathering and wear to their surfaces.
