Carved and Inlaid Ivory and Bone Yarn Swift, America, mid-19th century, the ivory swift topped with a covered yarn cup, on a turned shaft inlaid with red and black colored wax, the clamp inlaid with abalone and wood, the bone slats joined with red and blue silk ribbons, inlaid with wood dots, and engraved with floral vines, (imperfections), ht. 16 in. the wire bands holding the slats in place on the top and bottom of the shaft are loose, and two of the slats have losses at the tips, a trapezoid shape of abalone is missing from the clamp, crack on lower shaft, small crack on smaller thumbscrew.
