Academy Painted Lady's Writing Surface, America, early 19th century, two rectangular hinged panels covered in yellow paper with polychrome painted decoration, the exterior of one panel depicting three female figures wearing diaphanous gowns, one holding a bird nest, one holding a bird aloft, one kneeling beside two ruined columns, with meandering floral and foliate vine borders, the interior panels decorated with shells and a butterfly on yellow crocuses, with blue ribbon and leafy vine borders, (minor edge losses), closed dimensions 7 3/4 x 9 3/4 in.
