Academy Painted Box, Massachusetts, 1790-1815, with simulated lunette inlay outlining the central image, "View in Cornwall," and the edges; the images on the lower sections depict and name the four seasons; the owner's name "S A Appleton" is inscribed on the reverse above two sprigs below which reads: "Painted by C. R. Adams," old surface, (very minor surface imperfections), ht. 5, wd. 12, dp. 18 in. The top has two small losses, 1/4" and 1/2" and a small group of color losses at left and up at the top and right side; color losses the size of the head of a pin.
