Antoine Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875) Silvered Bronze Figure of a Horse, "Cheval Turc," the stallion with raised foreleg, on naturalistic rectangular base with mold incised signature "Barye," base bearing plaque engraved "This sculpture, executed circa 1838, is a pair to the one in the Bonnat Museum, Bayonne," ht. 11 1/2, base 12 3/8 x 4 3/4 in.Note: One of a pair of silvered bronze casts of this model, believed to have been a special commission by the painter Leon Bonnat, a friend of Barye's and collector of his work.
