GEORGE II STERLING SILVER CANDLESTICKS, JOHN QUANTOCK, LONDON, 1755-1756, PAIR, H 9 1/2":Each single-light candlestick having a squared base with shell corners and engraved armorial crest. Hallmarks include a lion passant, date letter U, and crowned leopard, with maker's mark "JQ" enclosed in a rectangle (see photo); the removable bobeches are not hallmarked. Also, one candlestick is hand-engraved "No 1, 19 2" at the underside and "No 3" at the bobeche, and the other "No 2, 18 9" at the underside and "No. 4" at the bobeche. Purchased at Sotheby's Olympia, July 8, 2005, lot 339. Weighing approximately 17.4 and 18.0 troy oz., respectively. (rev.20071212)
