Federal Mahogany, Rosewood, and Flame Birch Veneer Bowfront Bureau, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, c. 1800., the mahogany top with inlaid edge overhangs a case of drawers with flame birch veneered panels in mahogany veneers interspersed with rosewood veneered escutcheons above a molded base with flared front feet banded with contrasting cross-banded mahogany veneers with shaped sides, turned wooden pulls appear original, refinished, (imperfections including minor veneer loss), ht. 36 1/2, wd. 41 1/4 dp. 22 1/2 in. Provenance: Family descent to the consignor from Hon. Jeremiah Maon (b. 1768), a graduate of Yale University in 1788 and subsequently a lawyer in new Hampshire. His son, Charles, was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, July 25, 1812. He was graduated from Harvard and Andover Theological School. Later, he resided on Chestnut Street in Salem, Massachusetts, where he was Rector at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
