Musical Tableau Mecanique Automaton, circa 1870, of a harbor scene with papier-mache cliffs, painted card houses, windmill, viaduct, blacksmith shop, waterfall and estuary with rocking ship, with two-air pull-string cylinder movement and going-barrel automaton movement causing the windmill sails to turn, horse-drawn traffic to pass over the viaduct, two bisque-headed blacksmiths to beat an anvil, the ship to roll on tissue paper waves while the waterfall "ripples" by means of concealed glass rods, and a hot air balloon moves across the horizon, in giltwood gesso frame, 27 x 31 in.
