A Clark Gable signed contract with Pathé Studios dated July 12, 1930, for his role as Bud (later changed to Rance Brett) in the film The Painted Desert (Pathé, 1931). It was Gable’s second credited role for which he was paid $750 a week. The contract stated that Gable would be employed for no less than three weeks and also be named in the top five film credits. Signed at the bottom of the contract by Gable in black ink.
