Embroidered Silk Coverlet, China, late 19th/early 20th century, with a central motif of waterfowl and aquatic plants, surrounded by floral sprays and prunus blossom on a light pink ground, the reverse turquoise, with complimentary fringe, 56 1/2 x 57 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig to the present owner.
