The first five unsigned, watercolors on paper laid down on brown paper, showing varied scenes of Rio de Janeiro's coastline and happenings, each identified in inscriptions in pen along the lower edges, "View of Organ Mts. Rio Janeiro May 1849"; "Opp. Rio. May 1849."; "Rio Fort May 1849."; Corcovado Gloria Church & Rio May 1849."; and "Corcovado Rio Janeiro/ May 1849."; the last, signed with initials and dated lower right "H.S.S. July 1847", a night scene showing a fire and onlookers with a crescent moon above and inscribed "Chiflon Tobacco" above the signature; ht. 5, 5, 2 3/4, 2 3/4, 10, 5, wd. 7, 7, 5 1/2, 5 1/2, 7 1/2, 8 in.
