Attributed to Henry Schreiner Stellwagen (American, d. 1866) Five Watercolor Views. Unsigned. Watercolors on paper, ships in harbor and in rough seas, the first laid down on brown paper and showing a ship flying an American flag in a Peruvian harbor with other ships and inscribed on the brown paper "Payte Peru"; the second and third showing ships in turbulent waters, the fourth showing a ship and inscribed on the reverse "Lt. M.B. Macley/Harbor of Carea -- Crete," the fifth showing three small vessels and a fort beyond and inscribed on the reverse "City of Panama/ Sketched Apl 8th 1851/ Painted 16th Aug 1851/ Lat 45'55" N Long 50'00" W/ bound home," ht. 4 1/4-5, wd. 5 1/2-7 in., sold together with three small prints glued to reverse of brown paper of the first. Condition: the first three with minor toning, the fourth and fifth with minor foxing and toning.
