The First-drawn Fanny Gray Paper Doll Set, 1844, consists of two sets of dolls, in a blue box marked COSTUMES. One doll's head is the blonde Fanny Gray, the other is the brunette Bessie Grey (spelled with an e). The storyboards for each are identical, only the name has been changed. The costumes are slightly different, and the first five outfits are all the same size, creating an approx. 5-inch doll. Unique to this set is the inclusiion of four larger scale drawings, representing her older and more privileged time. These are exotic outfits: The Turkish Maid, The English Peasant Girl, The Swiss Girl and The Polish Maid, each with an appropriate literary verse attached, with the exception of Polish which remained unfinished. There is one larger blonde head for these four figurs. The artwork and coloring is fine, crisp and well-detailed. The box measure 7 x 8 3/8 in.
