Jolin a Orleans. Made circa 1745. Fine and rare, Louis XV gilt bronze night clock with cord-pull wound alarm. Finely cast and chased rococo scroll and rocaille stand with three legs extending into flower and leaf mounts flanking the dial, foliate scroll and flower cresting above the dial with aperture for the hour pointer in the form of an arrow. Rotating brass chapter ring pierced with radial Roman numerals and outer star markers, the numerals illuminated as they pass the “12” position, inner brass alarm disc with Arabic numerals and inner half-hour ring. 100 x 93 mm, brass with four turned baluster pillars, going barrel, tic-tac anchor escapement with silk suspension and brass-bob pendulum, underslung alarm bell, hinged brass doors and shaped top-plate on which to place the light source. Movement signed. Dim. 29 x 22 x 15 cm. Notes Louis Jollin (Or Jolin), worked in the Rue Royale, Orleans from 1740, he died in 1781. There is a clock by Jolin in the Musee d'Orleans.
