“Silver Pair-Cased” L(angley) Bradley, London. Made circa 1710. Very fine, silver pair-cased pocket watch. Outer: two-body, "bassine", polished, inner: two-body, deep back, split bezel, swivel pendant. Silver, champlevé with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with five-minute Arabic numerals on polished oval cartouches. Blued steel "beetle and poker" hands. 41 mm, gilt full plate with divided vase pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel balance with flat balance spring, single-footed cock with streamers and straight foot, silver regulation dial. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 57 mm To be sold without reserve Notes Langley Bradley Apprenticed in 1651, he became a member of the Clockmakers' Company in 1695, and was Master from 1726 to 1738. A famous watch and clockmaker, he made clocks for St. Paul's, London, circa 1706, and for St. Giles', Edinburgh. In 1738 he was appointed keeper of St. Paul's clock. Watches made by him are in the Sir John Soane Museum and the British Museum. The present watch was previously sold by Antiquorum, Geneva, November 11, 2001, lot 269.
