"Dual-Time-Zone & Thermometer" Courvoisier Frères, Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, No. 1912. Made for the Indian market, circa 1900. Fine and very rare, hunting-cased, 18K gold, independently adjustable two time-zone keyless pocket watch with Réaumur Fahrenheit thermometer. Four-body, "basine et filets", polished, bi-directional slide on the band for setting the hands. Hinged gold cuvette with engineturned border. White enamel with two dials for "Railway Time" and "Calcutta Time", each with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds dial, Réaumur Fahrenheit thermometer sector above calibrated from 20 - 120 degrees. Blued steel "spade" hands. Notes The present watch has an interesting and simple mechanism for independently adjusting both pairs of hands. A slide on the band can be moved one way to engage the hand-setting for one dial and then the other way to set the hands of the other dial. This watch is rare in having two time-zones and thermometer, it was intended for use on the railways, the home station being Calcutta.
