“Lac de Cupidon” E. Gübelin, Lucerne, No. 57725. Made circa 1910. Very fine and very rare, 8-day going, silver-gilt, painted on enamel, ivory and glass mystery table clock with the original Gübelin gold-tooled morocco box. Bowl-form, beaded and laurel borders, concave side decorated with a fine painted on enamel continuous scene of a Swiss landscape with a coach and horses, cupid riding at the rear, translucent aquamarine guilloché enamel band below, raised on four leaf-pattern feet. Translucent aquamarine guilloché enamel chapter ring with pale blue, white and gold enamel radial Roman numerals, fleur-de-lys and flowerhead gold paillon quarter-hour markers, the center with a mirror to simulate water and a carved ivory figure of cupid in a silver boat holding a paddle indicating the time. 55 mm., frosted gilt, three-quarter plate, 15 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, bimetallic compensation balance with three adjustments, Breguet balance spring, index regulator.
