“Cadran Mnemonique” Charles Oudin, Horloger de la Marine, Palais Royal 52, Paris, Nos. 6650 and 355, executed by P. Sandoz & fils, Locle, circa 1850. Exceptionally fine and rare 18K yellow gold quarter repeating double-train hunting-cased pocket watch with independent dead seconds and Charles Oudin’s patented Mnemonique dial on the cuvette for remembering a single event or rendezvous. Four-body, all hinged, "bassine et filets", engine-turned cover with coat of arms, engine-turned back with elaborate initials "MS", gold hinged cuvette, with enamel Arabic chapter rings for the hour and the date. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute/seconds. Gold steel "spade" hands.
