Ref. 5015, So-Called “Rigid Hooded” Rolex, “Oyster Perpetual, Officially Certified Chronometer”, Ref. 5015. Made in 1961. Very fine and rare, tonneau-shaped, self-winding, waterresistant, stainless steel and yellow gold gentleman's wristwatch with center-seconds, “Super Oyster” crown, yellow gold hooded lugs and stainless steel and gold Rolex “Grain of Rice” bracelet. Three-body, bi-colored, polished and brushed, yellow gold bezel, hooded lugs and “Super Oyster” winding crown, steel case. Matte-silver with applied gold dart, dot and Arabic hours, outer minute and seconds divisions. Luminous gold “Alpha” hands. Notes The “Super-Oyster” winding crown was an attempt by Rolex to create a waterproof winding crown which did not need to be screwed down. The system itself worked, however in time the rubber seal perished and this crown type was phased out after only a few years of production.
