Adonis Dufour a Bordeaux. Made circa 1734. Fine and rare, repoussé silver pair-cased pocket watch with silver balance cock. Outer: two-body, “bassine”, the back decorated with a repoussé scene of Adonis at a water fountain, his dog and bow at his side, pierced foliate border intersected by two profile busts and two townscapes in cartouches, the bezel decorated to match with cartouches depicting mythical beasts. Inner: two-body, “bassine”, polished. Silver champleve with radial Roman numerals, outer arcaded minute track and outermost large Arabic five-minute numerals, central signature cartouches. Marcasite-set Louis XV hands. 36 mm., gilt brass full plate, fancy pierced and engraved pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, pierced and engraved silver cock, blued steel endplate with cabochon red endstone, silver regulation disc. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 49 mm with outer case. Notes According to Tardy, Jacob Dufour was active in Bordeaux between 1733 and 1735.
