BOURDIN - CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH DUAL CALENDAR Bourdin, H. ger du Roi, 24, Rue de la Paix, Paris, No. 3687. Made circa 1850. Fine and rare, gilt-brass, hour and half-hour striking, repeating, 8-day going carriage clock with alarm and dualdate calendar. Accompanied by a fitted box. Multi-piece, gilt brass, “corniche”, entirely engraved with fl owers and stylized foliage, glazed sides and top, foliate engraved gilt brass back door with shuttered winding holes. Circular white enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, large subsidiary seconds at 12, dials below for the alarm setting, days of the week and date, foliate engraved gilt brass mask. Blued steel Breguet hands. Rectangular gilt brass, spring barrels for the going and striking trains, lateral lever escapement on a gilt platform, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel balance spring, index regulator, striking and repeating on a bell, separate alarm train with further hammer. Dial and case signed. Dim. 14 x 9.8 x 8.3 cm Notes A.E. Bourdin was a mid-19th century Paris maker. The Tribune Chronométrique of 1850 says that his pendules de voyage “are not only very well fi nished and presented in all their details, but are also excellent timekeepers and this despite the many complications which they embody”.
