MAGNIFICENT ROYAL PRESENTATION MUSICAL FAN WITH CONCEALED WATCH, A GIFT FROM PRINCE FERDINAND OF SAXE-COBURG AND GOTHA TO VICOMTE DE MORAIS. Attributed to Piguet & Capt, Geneva. Made circa 1810. Extremely rare and magnificent, musical, gold, painted on enamel and pearl-set fan with concealed watch and visible rose-diamond-set balance, the fan painted in watercolor and gold. Gold, with engraved edges, the front and matching back decorated with graduated circles of sky blue and green champleve enamel, each set with half-pearls and joined by graduated half-pearl-set scrolls issuing engraved gold leaves, translucent Royal blue guilloche enamel ground and half-pearl-set border, hinged panel in the handle concealing the watch, the panel decorated with painted on enamel fl owers entwined with a blue ribbon and within a pearl-set border, the conforming back panel painted on enamel with fl owers entwined with a bow and arrow, the musical movement contained within activated by a slide on the side, fi nely foliate and scroll pierced gold sticks, the fan leaf painted in watercolour on vellum, on one side a vignette of two ladies and a little girl holding fl owers in a landscape, the borders decorated with fl owers amongst gold scrolls, the reverse decorated with further fl owers and gold scrolls on a cream background.
