Jacques Cogniet a Paris, circa 1690. Fine and rare Silver Louis XIV "oignon" with central winding, single hand and enamel dial. Double body "oignon" , polished, the back centred with engraved concentrical circles. White enamel with blue Roman numerals. Blued steel single hand. Hinged gilt brass full plate with Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain short flat balance spring, rack and pinion regulator with silver disc, fine gilt brass Louis XIV cock pierced and chased with foliage and birds. Signed on the back plate. Diam. 57 mm Notes Oignons with central winding and single hand were not usually fitted with enamel dials which wer e not easy to produce in such a large dimension. The few enamel dials made for large watches at the end of the 17th century are now found in poor condition.
