J. Rousseau, London, No. 2665, circa 1750.Very fine and rare, small, 22K gold triple-cased watch. Outer double-body of finely worked gold wire filigree floral patterns. Inner double-body, bassine, polished and gilt brass shark skin covered protecting case. Gold champlevé with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minutes ring with arched divisions. Blued steel “poker and beetle” hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with turned baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock pierced and engraved with a mask and foliag.Signed on the dial and back plate.Diam. 87 mm. Notes English watches in filigree cases are particularly rare and this example is of much smaller diameter than usual. Thanks to its protecting case, it is also in an outstanding condition.
