Benjamin Gray, Justin Vulliamy, London, No. oco, circa 1770.Very fine and rare silver pair-cased small coach watch with quarter-repeating on a bell or à toc, and alarm, in original Morocco fitted case. 52 mm., hinged, gilt full plate with turned baluster pillars, fusee and chain, cylinder escapement with brass escape wheel, plain three-arm steel balance with flat balance spring, double-footed cock, balance jeweled and with diamond endstone, alarm with fixed barrel ringing a bell with two hammers, repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant, gilt brass dust cap.Signed on the movement and dust cap.Diam. 88 mm. (outer case) Notes Very good example of the work of much celebrated British watchmaker of Swiss origin. Certain features found in this watch, such as double hammer for the alarm are rare even in Vulliamy work.
