Oriental HarborMarkwick Markham - Perigal, London, No. 41618, made for the Islamic Market, hallmarked 1813-14.Very fine and 18K gold and enamel, triple-cased quarter-repeating watch. Outer: double body, scalloped edge enameled inside within floral decoration, glazed back, bezels decorated with repeated floral pattern in azure and translucent scarlet enamel on translucent rose ground. Middle: two-body, back with finely painted enameled miniature with two ships entering a harbor, as the sun sets behind mountains in the background, within opaque white and translucent red borders, bezels with enameled floral decoration. Inner: two-body, band pierced and engraved with foliateecoration, back centered with a small rosette, gilt dust ring. White enamel with Turkish numerals, outer minute ring with five-minute original Arabic markers. Gold "poker and beetle" hands. 27 mm, gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass English cock with diamond endstone, repeating on bell by depressing the pendant.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 48 mm.
