Cartel "Au Chinois". Admyrauld, à Paris, circa 1740. Fine gilt bronze and green horn veneered two-week going hour and half-hour striking cartel clock. Glazed on both curved sides, hinged front decorated with gilt bronze reclining lady on a dragon chariot, gilt bronze floral edges, curved feet, detachable curved top with seated Mandarin with a sun umbrella, en suite bracket profusely decorated with ormolu. Rectangular, brass, going barrels, verge escapement, steel rod/brass bob pendulum, silk suspension, bell striking with count wheel on the back plate.Signed on the movement.Dim. Height 78 mm, width 39 cm. Notes Louis-Henri Admyrauld (1703 Paris-after 1778).He was a son of a lawyer in Parliament. He became an apprentice in 1717 and became a Master on February 2, 1724. He established his business at Rue des Fossés Saint-Germain-des-Prés, where he was listed still in 1745. In 1772 he retired to Thouard and produced very fine clocks, and in 1734 invented a clock with astronomical indications of which Berthoud wrote "although the mechanism was ingenious enough to present to the Academy, the maker did not consider it necessary, and this from a feeling of modesty which can only do him honor".
