Chronos Thomas Gardner, London, circa 1770. Fine, ebonized, astronomical, hour and half-hour striking, George III musical bracket clock with date and phases and age of the moon. Rectangular, molded base and top with pierced brass decoration, large turned finials, side panels fitted with pierced brass sheet, hinged front and back, brass handles on each side, triangular brass feet. Silvered chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic markers, winding and date apertures in the center, phases of the moon at the top with tune names on the arch above, poly-chrome Chronos below. Brass pierced hands. Rectangular, brass, fusee and chain on each train, verge escapement, brass pendulum with small bob, striking on a single bell, music on a nest of 11 bells from brass pinned cylinder.Signed on dial and movement.Dim. 68 x 40 cm.
