La Vallée de l’Arve Markwick Markham, Perigal, London, No. 41835, London hallmarks for 1793, made for the Islamic market. Very fine and rare 18K gold and enamel pair-cased quarter repeating watch. Outer: double body, scalloped edge, back with finely painted on enamel miniature depicting an Alpine lakewith a row-boat on a river in the foreground, a city with bridge, mountains in the background, pink and bluetranslucent sky and engine-turned ground simulating a setting sun, white and pink and translucent red borderswith chased gold decoration, bezels with enameled floral decoration. Inner: two-body, pierced and engravedband (outermost missing). White enamel with Turkish numerals. Gold "beetle and poker" hands. frostedgilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flatbalance spring, gilt brass English cock with diamond endstone. Repeating on a bell via push in the pendant. Giltdust ring.Signed on the dial and back plate, case stamped with maker’s mark NV.Diam. 43 mm.
