Joseph Andiroff, probably Northern Italy, circa 1770. Rare brass and iron lantern clock with hour striking, in the form of a “talking head”. On bun feet, turned finials, front with wooden talking head. Silvered ring with Roman numerals, inner quarter hour divisions, center in polychrome painted cherubs holding a ribbon, castle in the background, spandrels painted with cherub’s heads. Single iron hand. Two tier, one for the going train, the other for striking, verge escapement, short pendulum, count wheel with Italian six-hour divisions on the back.Dial signed illegibly.Dim: height 24 cm, width 12 cm. Notes Talking head” clocks, which are mostly German, are rarely seen in Italian horology.
