Johan Bock (Frankfurt), Germany, circa 1635. Very fine and rare, oval gilt brass and silver hunting cased, moon phase astronomical pre-balance spring watch. Oval gilt brass with silver cover and back, polished, winding aperture shutter on the back, the overlaid silver band engraved with foliage, gilt brass loose-ring and button finial. Gilt brass, with small eccentric Roman chapter ring for hours, symmetrical silver ring above for the age of the moon, inner indication for months with their number of days, small subsidiary dial on the left for days of the week and apertures on the wright for the moon phase and date volvelles. Blued steel baluster hands. Hinged shaped giltbrass full plate with turned urn pillars, fusee with gutline, three wheel train, verge escapement, two-arm steel balance without spring, irregular oval foliage pierced and engraved cock secured by a pin, with matching click for the ratchet wheel set-up.
