Hierosme Grebauval a Rouen, circa 1640. Very fine gilt brass and silver octagonal pre-balance spring watch. Three body octagonal with gilt brass pendant finials and hinges, the silver band engraved with basket of flowers and inhabited foliage, silver cover finely engraved with a "Madonna and Child" , winged angels and further foliage decoration, the back with a matching decoration, centred with the figure of Saint Louis. All the silver panels are enclosed by gilt metal borders. The inside of back and cover engraved with wreath of laurel. Silver chapter ring with Roman numerals, applied on a gilt brass dial-plate engraved with a scene depicting Leda and the Swan with further winged angels and foliage decoration. Blued steel single hand. Hinged gilt brass full plate with turned urn pillars, fusee with a later chain, three wheel train, verge escapement, two-arm balance without spring, irregular foliage pierced gilt brass cock secured by a pin with matching click for the ratchet wheel set-up.
