Jaquet Droz & Leschot a Paris, No. 26, circa 1785. Very fine 18K gold and enamel, pair cased pearl set watch. Double body Directoire, the enamelled split pearl inlaid bezel, the pendant and bow with paillonne decoration over a blue ground, the enamel back panel with a very fine concentric paillonne decoration in a peacock feather pattern. Two body gold glazed outer protecting case. White enamel with Roman numerals. Gold hands. Hinged spring loaded gilt brass dust cap. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Signed on the dust cap. In very good condition. Diam. 57 mm. Notes This watch is a very good example of a paillonne enamelled decoration, technique introduced by Jaquet Droz as early as 1775. The peacock leather pattern was much in favour in China, but scarcely used for the European Market. Jaquet Droz took Leschot as partner from 1784. Due to its low number, this watch was certainly produced soon alter the beginning of the association.
