Manzini, Carlo Antonio (1599-1678) L'Occhiale all'Occhio . Bologna: Herede del Benacci, 1660. First edition, quarto, engraved portrait bound after first signature, illustrated with several text woodcuts, one depicting the lens grinder at work occupies most of the page, small worm trail, confined to blank margin, and affecting fewer than twenty leaves, slight dampstain to blank top margin, otherwise good, with some contemporary notes, bound in orginal gold-tooled limp Italian parchment, all edges gilt. Manzini, who makes mention of Galileo and Kepler in his preface, created this working manual to describe practical lens-grinding, and the basic principles of optics, with instructions for making optical instruments from eyeglasses to microscopes and telescopes.
