Klaus Karl Otto Ihlenfeld (German/American, b. 1934) Untitled Initialed "KI" on one protrusion. Welded bronze, approximately 10 1/2 in. (26.7 cm) diameter. Condition: Minor surface grime. N.B. Ihlenfeld trained at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in West Berlin from 1950 to 1956, and completed graduate work with the metal sculptor Hans Uhlmann. He first visited the United States in 1957 for a group show at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, and met Harry Bertoia the same year. He worked in the Bertoia Studio for a period, returning to West Berlin in 1958 to open his own workshop and gallery. Ihlenfeld visited the United States a second time in 1960, widely-exhibiting and eventually settling in Pennsylvania. There does not appear to be any damage, repair, or restoration. The piece does not have a base.
