Peter Lanyon (British, 1918-1964) Deep Blue Coast Signed and dated "Lanyon 61" l. l., titled, signed, and dated "...Lanyon Oct. 61" on the reverse, identified on a label from Gimpel Fils Gallery, Ltd., London, affixed to the strainer. Oil on canvas, 48 x 30 in. (121.9 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Minor surface grime. Provenance: Estate of an arts benefactor, New York. Areas of drying cracks mixed within areas of vertical brush strokes in blue pigment in the center, scuff marks in upper corners, varnish inconsistencies and discoloration particularly prevalent in drips in l.r. quadrant, surface grime overall.
