Artist-designed 18kt Gold Gem-set "Harlequin Bird" Brooch, Max Papart, c. 1980s, made by Jean Jacques de la Verriere, designed as an abstract enamel bird with emerald, ruby, and diamond melee accents, lg. 2 in., signed. Note: Max Papart (1911-1994) was a painter and master printmaker who worked in a semi-Cubist style, using the bright and cheerful colors of the French Riviera where he was born. His work has been exhibited in numerous institutions including the Victoria and Albert, the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and Yale University. Lots 153, 154, and 155 are each based on an original graphic by Papart.
