Marie H. Guise Newcomb (American, 1865-1895) Portrait of a Horse. Signed and dated "M.H. Guise 1885" l.r. Oil on canvas, 18 1/4 x 24 in., framed. Condition: Lined, craquelure, minor lifting, retouch. The lining is adhered with glue or resin. Brown paper tape or similar to edges. Area of repair with retouch to the horse's back. Additional retouch is scattered small areas (predominately to foreground and edges) as well as light washes to the background. Scattered craquelure with lifting, cupping including one are u.l. with lifting and minor loss. The work would probably benefit from a gentle cleaning.
