Two English Moorish Market Shell and Silver-cased Pocket Watches, late 18th century, London, one with movement by Edward Prior, in silver plated body, sent into Turkish hallmarked inner case, tortoiseshell and pique outer case, and with a lobed Turkish silver cover, dial dia. 1 1/2, the other with movement by Bar. Bayley, dial signed by George Prior, with English silver body and inner cases hallmarked London, 1791, maker's mark IT, with tortoiseshell and pique outer case, dial dia. 1 5/8 in. Edward Prior example: replaced stem. lacking glass. losses to pique inlay, with crack to shell of back cover approx. 1". silver cover with a small metal tear near hole for stem (approx. 1/8"). wear to engraving at cover. age typical wear. Bayley/Prior: overall age typical wear. shell case with losses to pique, and two cracks to back approx. 1/4" each.
