Antique 18kt Gold Box, France, depicting Andromache in mourning, reverse with a flowering rose, 46. 5 dwt, 2 1/4 x 1 1/2 x 1/2 in., French guarantee stamp, signed O.Roty. Note: Considered one of the greatest medalists of the 19th century, Louis Oscar Roty was a Parisian artist trained under Dumont who won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1875 and as well as medals from the Paris Salon in 1873, 1882, and 1885. In 1889 he was awarded a Grand Prix at the Exhibition Universelle. His work can be found in all European art museums. Overall light surface scratches, some wear to crispness of design. Dings to edges. Reverse with small impression.
