Pair of Cinnabar Planters, China, 19th century, of quatrefoil shape and raised on four ruyi feet, each side carved with a panel of scholars and attendants in a mountainous landscape, reserved on a stylized lotus ground, the everted mouth rim carved with key-fret patterns below lotus and prunus scrolling, the interior and base lacquered black, ht. 3 3/4, 9 3/8 x 7 5/8 in. Repairs to the feet, crack lines to the interior extending to the outside, loss to the mouth rims and sections of carving on the surface.
