Mounted to autographed letter signed by James Hamilton ("James Hamilton"), son of Alexander Hamilton, to Mrs. David Small, presenting the hair and attesting to their authenticity and provenance, Dobbs Ferry, September 5, 1865: "I enclose to you a few hairs taken from the heads of four very illustrious men - I pray you to receive them as a mark of the sincere regard and respect [...] I certify that the above hairs were taken from the heads of the respective persons to whom they are attributed... James A. Hamilton." Framed.
