New York: s. n., 1865. 8vo, original gilt-stamped brown cloth. First edition, the important and preferred second issue, bound with the separately printed "Sequel to Drum Taps." Whitman printed roughly 100 copies in May of 1865 before halting production to accommodate the additional poems spurred by Lincoln's assassination, including "Oh, Captain! My Captain!" Boards rubbed and worn at extremities; original publisher's notice tipped to front pastedown; hinges starting; scattered brownspotting.
