COLSTON CHINESE MARKET STRIKING CLOCK WATCH GILT Colston, London. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1760. Very fine and rare, two-train, gilt-metal, hard stone and paste-set striking clockwatch. Two-body, bassine, hinged, the bezel set with faceted red pastes, bands with foliate pierced and engraved sound frets, the back set with a domed polished agate panel within a faceted red paste border. Fixed gilt cuvette with sound holes and apertures for winding. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic five-minute numerals. Gilt poire hands. Hinged gilt full plate, baluster pillars, fusee and chain for the going train, verge escapement, flat balance spring, foliate pierced and engraved cLock, silver regulation dial, striking train with going barrel, countwheel and bell in the fixed cuvette.
