Notes Bebe Neuwirth, recognized internationally for her versatility, has delighted audiences in theater, film, television, and cabaret, moving easily from one venue to another. For her extended Broadway run as Velma Kelly in "Chicago ", Bebe won the 1997 Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical, the Drama Desk Award, the Outer Circle Critics Award, the Drama League Distinguished Performance of the Year, and the Fred Astaire Award for Best Dancer on Broadway. Her film credits include, `Jumanji " , "Pinocchio " , "Say Anything", "The Paint Job", "Malice", "Green card " , "Bugsy " , and "Celebrity " . She is also recognized as one of the most gifted dancers performing today, winning a Tony Award in 1986 for her portrayal of Nickie in the Broadway revival of Bob Fosse' s "Sweet Charity". For her television performance as Dr. Lilith Sternin Crane in the hit series "Cheers " , she garnered two Emmy Awards. Additionally, she has performed internationally on stage in London's West End, as well as performed before numerous cabaret audiences. A native of Princeton, New Jersey, Neuwirth began studying ballet at the early age of five.
