JULES MONARD GRANDE & PETITE SONNERIE MINUTE REPEATER YELLOW GOLD Jules Monard, Geneva, No. 24964. Made circa 1900. Very fine and very rare open-face, keyless, 18K yellow gold pocket watch with grande and petite sonnerie and minute repeater. Four-body, bassine, polished. Hinged gold cuvette, levers in the band for silence/sonnerie and grande/petite sonnerie White enamel with radial arabic numerals, outer minute track with red 5 minute arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds. Blue steel pear hands. 43 mm. rhodium-plated, double train with differential winding, 30 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, striking the hours and quarters two hammers, repeating activated by a slide in the band. Notes Dial and case signed, case numbered. DIAM. 53 mm. THICKNESS 15 mm. This watch was part of the collection of the Swiss comedian MICHEL SIMON who inherited his father's beautiful collection of pocket watches. ANTIQUORUM sold part of his collection back in 1977. This watch is also illustrated in La Montre Suisse on plate 124.
