Jh. Melly A Paris, circa 1740. Fine and large silver repousse pair-cased quarterstriking and repeating clock-watch with alarm. Outer. Two body,silver with skin covering and pierced roundels. Inner. Two body, the bezels pierced and embossed with foliage, enclosing a scene of Mercury and Urania. Universal joint pendant. White enamel, Roman hour and Arabic minute numerals, inner Arabic revolving alarm disc(hair cracks).Bluedsteel hands. Four train, gilt full-plate, hexagonal balluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with plain balance, flat spring and large regulator sector. Foliage pierced continental cock. Fixed barrels for full grandesonnerie striking of hours (one hammer) and quarters (two hammers) on a bell,with pullrelease quarter-repeating cord.Seperate alarm train. Signed on the back plate. In good condition. Diam.137 mm. Notes Members of the Melly family appear to have worked predominantly in Geneva,but also in Paris during the 18th.century.
