Edward Speakman, London, No. 58, circa 1690. Fine silver and tortoise-shell pair cased, Sun-and- Moon watch. Outer double body, tortoise-shell outer with a fine silver inlaid decoration of flowers and doves. Inner double body bassine with split bezel, polished. Silver champlevé engraved with scrolled foliage in which Sun and Moon symbols, inlaid in a blued steel disc, appear alternatively in an open sector to indicate the hours of day and night, marked along the rim in Roman numerals, the minute being shown in a conventional manner on the outer Arabic ring. Blued steel "poker" minute hand. Hinged gilt brass full plate with tulip pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage. Signed on the dial and back plate. hl very good condition. Diam. 53 mm.
