Roman, Melly & Roux à Constance, No 8098, circa 1830. Rare turquoise set double calendar centre secondswatch with special escapement. Double body, silver gilt, with glazed back, the band and pendant set with turquoise. Eccentric white enamel with Arabic numerals, subsidiary dials for date and day, outer Arabic seconds ring, decorated with a martial infant and two helmets. Hinged gilt brass full plate, cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, deadbeat verge escapement with five short pointed teeth, escape wheel plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Signed on the back plate. In good condition. Diam. 61 mm. Notes A similar escapement is illustrated in Tardy: La Montre, Les échappements à demi recul, les échappements à repos. p 52, fig. 70. Previously in the collection of The Time Museum, this watch was sold by Sotheby's in New York on 11 December 1986, lot 169 of the catalogue.
